2Construct's preferred charity - TEAM TEAL announce 2023 Campaign
Across six weeks in February, WomenCan team up with the harness racing industry to bring to you Team Teal, an International harness racing campaign for ovarian cancer.
The Harness Racing industry across Australia and New Zealand will once again embrace Team Teal, with every reinswoman taking the reins to help women affected by ovarian cancer. Throughout the campaign, reinswomen across Australia and New Zealand will wear their teal pants to raise much needed funds for WomenCan on behalf of ANZGOG, funding pioneering gynaecological cancer research and educational programs to improve outcomes for women now and into the future.
Of the seven gynaecological cancers, ovarian cancer is the deadliest of all cancers affecting women, with only four in 10 women surviving after five years. It’s a devastating disease and one that has touched many in our community, including Team Teal Patron Duncan McPherson OAM, who lost his wife Lyn to ovarian cancer in 2010.
Since its inception, Team Teal and the harness racing industry has so far raised more than $2.5 million to improve life for women diagnosed with ovarian and other gynaecological cancers. Team Teal contributes funding towards Survivors Teaching Students, a program where cancer survivors and caregivers share their lived experience with medical, nursing and allied health students. By listening to survivors’ stories, students gain detailed insights into gynaecological cancer that could help them in diagnosing and treating future patients.
